Motherboard problems
I have a Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 motherboard, it has been working fine since I built the computer. However, last night I turned on the computer and it wouldn't boot. The hard drive spins, the CPU fans spins, the graphic card fan spins, the light on the keyboard is on and the memory light on the board turns on however no signal is sent to the screen. The computer worked fine when I turned it on this previous morning. I've narrowed it down to either the motherboard, video card or memory, I just don't want to guess on what the problem happens to be, any anwsers would be great. I haven't heard any beeps from the computer so hopefully it's not a fatal error. Thanks.

Do you have an old Video card to swap with?
-
no I don't, I only hope that it is the video card, it's a Saphire 9800, the cheap verison. I would rather change that out then the motherboard because I think that is the weak link within my system.

Wish you were near by (Upstate New York, Utica Area) I have about 3 spare cards laying around (Serious Packrat here.)

aphjn,
So you think that it is the video card and is there any other part I can check that could be the problem?

You do not get even one beep when it boots? Here is what I am thinking for right now.
You either have a bad video card or an unseated one (latter not likely) for the simple problems. If you hear HDD activity, then the system is booting (HDD light flashing or feeling the HDD activity) If you are not then something is preventing BIOS from loading.
Does the monitor even attempt to come out of sleep mode? A quick test to see if your Processor/MB are functional is to remove the RAM that is in your sytem completely. The system will start beeping madly when you turn it on again. (Always turn off and remove power when messing around inside the case) Let me know what happens either way. Listen for the HDD first, then pull the ram if you do not hear the HDD. The reason is you can still boot with a dead Video card, but not with a damaged MB.

The monitor doesn't come out of sleep mode. I removed the ram and started the computer and heard a continuous beeping sound. The harddrive was spinning and I heard it moving. Maybe it is the harddrive and not the motherboard, which would equally suck because I would lose a ton of AutoCAD drawings, hopefully that isn't the case.

I also tried to hook up my other harddrive however it didn't boot up either and that harddrive is perfectly fine. So right now it's narrowed down to the motherboard or video card

Have you tried with just one stick of RAM in the first slot?
Also looking at the manuals is yours a GA-8IK1100 (Rev 1.x) or (Rev 2.x)?
Have you tried clearing the CMOS?
Also are you sure the monitor is ok?
-
The monitor is ok, it says it recieves no signal. I've turned it off and back on with no problems. I don't know what the CMOS or how to clear it. After checking the Giga-byte website, I think I purchased the Rev 1.x version of the motherboard.
