CMOS Settings Wrong/GPNV Checksum Bad
Hello all
So I just purchased a new MSI 865PE Neo2-V motherboard and I installed it into my new case.
When I booted it up for the first time, a chip seemed to have burned and now I reach the part of the POST where it has the following:
DEL Setup F1 Boot Menu.....etc
CMOS Settings Wrong OR GPNV Checksum Bad
I am very worried that something extremely bad has happened and they might not give me any support or replacement.
I also am not able to use my keyboard at all. I've tried clearing the cmos jumper settings, checking the ram, checking the cmos battery but I can't think of anything else since this is a brand new motherboard.
Any help as soon as possible is greatly appreciated.

Aight here we go.
This error has two possible causes:
1) The CMOS battery is empty (might have been short circuited or sumtin), so try to
replace it
2) The CMOS has been deleted. If u are lucky you might be able to access the
BIOS by pressing DEL or whatever key neccessary and then reload the
Default Settings and Save&Exit.
If the CMOS cannot be reset, bye bye board

thanks...so I should just go purchase a new battery then and try that since I can't use my keyboard?
What about that burnt chip? That is worrying me a lot.

Well is it for sure that the chip actually burned ? If u smelled a burned chip then u donŽt need to fork out for a new cmos battery iŽd say.
What might be worth trying also is to see if the mobo has contact with the case somewhere, this can short-circuit the board and prevent it from working ok. If thereŽs no contact between mobo and case then chances that the board went tits up are above 95%

What type KB? USB or PS2?

yeah a chip definitely burned.
oh and it's a PS2 KB

Can your computer still run with a burnt Chip?? Cuz i have the same problem only i can use the keyboard, and i press F1 and the computer boots and everything is fine. Only i get that error when i start my computer. And random restarts, dont even get warning or anything.

It won't go past that error since the keyboard won't work. I've sent it back to MSI as an RMA....now I'm just waiting to hear from them.
Thanks for the help though.
