    Dead

Just had a phone call this morning from the missus, she was on the PC, went into another room, then she heard a bang, walked back into the office and the PC was off and now it won't power back up!

How gutted am I? I just hope it's the PSU and nothing more serious, she said she smelt burning (but not what type of burning smell it was) anyone had an experience of this?

Just not an expense I need right now

If this is a genuine question you will get a better response by posting in the hardware board.

It was the PSU! (well up to now, anyway) you should've seen the black, I'm hoping there's nothing more, but we'll just have to wait and see, don't really want to pay more than the £12 for the PSU

Caps go up with a Bang, but they have to be either overcharged or very old. When a Cap goes it opens the system to AC versus DC, it may have allowed enough into the MB to toast more circuits. Basic Power Supply filtering is what the Capacitor (Caps) are for, the filter out the Alternating Current sine wave...DC Circuits do not like AC. You power regulator on the MB may be the next item up for bids.
