I am taking it that this is not good but don't have a clue what it means or how to go about fixing it.

My computer is getting on the old side now
it has an Athlon XP 1800 with 512ram
    NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600
    Avance AC97 Audio
SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller

Please Please help as if it goes any slower I'll be able to go and make a cup of tea before its even thought about booting up

What is the Operating System? 98? If so: perhaps this will help:

Err Msg: A Device Attached to the System Is Not Functioning

There are some similarities with those errors & the Blaster worm in XP.

It would be good to post a HijackThis log in the Spyware section.

please follow owen's Instructions and then post your log in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
