Removable Drive (Ipod) - Unable to REMOVE!!
I am having great difficulty in trying to disconnect a mass storage device (ipod)
I am running Windows XP and have had no problems with connecting and using my ipod until recently.
When an Ipod is connected it appears as a Removable Drive (G: in my case) and then once the ipod is disconnected it then disappears....
However, for some reason i have now always got a removable drive (G
even when my ipod is disconnected and i am unable to remove it as i get the message, after a long delay, that the drive is not accessable or that it is " unable to stop the generic volume device at this time".
This obviously is causing a problem for me now I cannot use my Ipod on my computer as it is not detected as my computer seems to think the 'mass storage drive' is always available.
Just to clear things up..... I have tried connecting a different ipod and it works fine and i have taken my ipod into an Apple shop who have confirm that it works perfectly in front of my own eyes... So i believe it is all down to the Removable Drive that is....well, un-removable!!!
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas as I have no more please please please share them!!

have you tried disk management? Right click on "My Computer" and then choose "manage"
now go to "disk management" if it shows up in there you should be able to remove it. Make sure you have all your ipod software before you do this next step. Right click on this imaginary "G" drive and then choose "properties" Next, you can try troubleshooting, but to remove the actual icon from you computer, go to "driver" tab and click the uninstall button. That should hopefully make the computer understand that the drive isn't actually there. Another way to remove it might be through the control panel. I would also recommend removing and re-installing the ipod updater, etc.. just to get a fresh start
