Have you ever used it before?

Right-click on My Computer and go to Properties. In the Hardware tab, go to Device Manager. Are there any entries that are highlighted as having a problem?

How is the drive connected to the laptop? Is it internal or does it use a USB or PCMCIA connection or something?

Are you running Windows 2000 or XP?

But is it internal, i.e. does it fit inside the laptop ..... or does the drive sit outside, connected via a cable?

    Oh

I know you said the laptop is only a couple of months old but it would be worth just checking on Toshiba's web site in case there are any updated IDE drivers.

Also, run Windows Update and download any available driver updates that it detects.

I need to get to bed now but I'll try and catch up with you tomorrow
