Radeon 9600 Pro problems
Hi guys,
Looked around for a good forum with helpful/knowledgable members and ended up here. So here goes with my maiden post....
I just bought a Peak Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB graphics card to fit in my Packard Bell iXtreme 6003. I have installed the drivers and device manager says everything is working fine but the PC seems a lot slower than it was before. I ran the Direct3D test via the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Run>'dxdiag') and it passed all tests except the Direct3D 7 test. I could see the rotating box but not words on the box (jumble) and when I said that I did not view it I was shown the result......'Failure at step 32 (user verification of Direct3D rendering) : HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code).
I tried to run Links 2003 and it didn't get past the intro screen so then i tried Call of Duty which started to work fine but as the game progressed the graphics started jumping/locking. Any ideas before I pull my hair out?
Many thanks
Paul

Hey, Welcome to DAL
Does the Packard Bell have built on video on the motherboard? If so did you disbale it in the bIOS before installing the 9600?
-
Hi Dal, Thanks for the quick response...
Yes the Packard Bell has an on-board graphics chip. Have looked in the BIOS but I am not too sure what to delete. Since fitting the graphics card the RAM indicated in Control Panel>System has gone up to 256MB from 192MB, indicating that the onboard graphics is not being used???
Appreciate any response
Regards
Pmat

Hello
Your ram was increased as the onboard video card owul be "shared" which means it takes memory from your RAM.
You sohoudl disable your graphics card from the motehrboard bios.
As the previous post said.
I ahev a Radeon Powercolor 9600 PRO Ez version, i have no problems with it. also i would reccomend a reinstall of windows if you do not knwo what drievr to delete, but you must disable it form your bios or the reinstall will be pointless.

Thanks KX
But where do i disable it? I know you said in the BIOS but I am not sure where exactly. Also do I need to uninstall any existing drivers?

well you ussual press DEL to get into the bios, it will be in tehre somewhere, most likely near your onboard sound settings (if you have them)

OK mate, i'll figure it out myself somehow.
