    CPU swapping?

Hi - I'm planning to build my first PC using a processor from my old compaq presario.

The CPU in my presario s4490uk is a P4 2.8ghz HT 800fsb. I hope to remove it and add it to my new motherboard: Asus P4P800-E Deluxe. Then I intend to put a celeron 2.6ghz in the Presario and keep the system as a back-up.
Having had many problems with the Compaq/HP mobo. (Stingray P4sd-la) resulting in my frying the damn thing on one occasion, I'm being very wary of all the components installed in my presario due to compatibility issues.
Please would someone let me know if this is a simple, straight forward process?
    Thanks for your time.

Why not build a new PC with the same (but new CPU) on the new mobo .....by the time you've removed the CPU and replaced it you may end up with 2 PCs that dont work, if you're not careful with ESD

Hi Jeff - thanx for the info. I think I'll do just that. There's a P4 3.2ghz going fairly cheap at simply.co.uk.
