ok, here is a retarded question...long..

The new system I built works really great, except for one thing......It won't let me install display drivers. I can't install the ones on the disk that came with the video card, and I can't install the ones I downloaded from the ATI website, I'm not even allowed to install the directX ones from microsoft. Whenever I try, I get an error, or it tells me the driver file is "corrupted" which is bizzare because it even says that about the ones I tried downloading multiple times from both micosoft and ATI. Sadly, without display drivers, I can't play halflife 2 or any other games.

Some times when the error message pops up it mentions something about the hard disks being corrupted. Now, the dumb question is, does this mean that the actual physical hard drive is corrupted and I should take it back to the store and chuck it at them? Then get a different one? The first one I got from them was bad too and I had to exchange it. It would be weird if both were like that. Then again, maybe the shipment got really jostled or an employee dropped a big box of them or something

    System specs:

    MSI PT880
    pentium 3.2 ghz
    Radeon 9600 SE
    Western Digital HD 120 gig
    1 512 DDR ram

    Thanks all for your time!

Run Scandisk with the "Fix Errors" checked. You will be required to restart. stay at the system while its restarted and runs the checks. Scandisk will report any errors it finds and trys to fix them. If its just the index files, it should be easy to fix, but the other parts is what would be the chucking the drive, unrepairable sectors.

That is probably the best and will probably yeild the best results. If that fails then give this a try, but obviously look for the ATI related info -

Click the Start Menu > Control Panel if you're on Windows XP. Click the 'Switch to Classic View' option. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

Select your camera software in the list and press the Remove button.

    Reboot.

When it comes back on, log in and go into Windows Explorer. Browse to the following directory: C:\documents and settings\Girogi\local settings\temp.

This is a hidden directory so, if you don't see it, you'll need to switch on hidden files and folders (do a search on this forum for instructions to do this if you aren't sure).

Delete the contents of the Temp folder (not the actual folder itself, just the files).

Empty your Recycle Bin if there's nothing else in there that you want to keep.

    Reboot.

Install your camera software again. Should be OK now.
