    Question Mic Issues

ive recently bought a lovely new microphone for my computer <LOVELY>

i brought it home, ripped open the packaging, like a small child at crimbo, and pluged it in. i then went and tried to use it by testing with the Sound Recorder, but nothing. thne found that it worked <HUZZAH>!! BUT only when it was pretty much in my mouth

No!!, i thought so i went and got it exchanged, but the same has happened again, so i am left to unfortunatly conclude that my computer is at fault

so i turn to you, oh D-A-L to help solve my quirey!

    am i doing something wrong?

    cheers

    What OS?

Have you ticked the 'Microphone Boost' checkbox in your volume control properties (standard windows application).

A good mike will need the source close - IE on lip - otherwise it will start to pick up ambient sounds (not what you'd want).

    Here's a primer on mic's

i thought of that with the first 1 i got, but with the second one i kinda upgraded and got a labtec one with a noise canceling mic, and with this one you stick it to the side of the monitor.

you may be right but i cant see many ppl bring them selves an inch from the screen to talk into it

If you haven't already done so, check the sound card manufacturer's web site to see if there's any updated sound card drivers.
