    Question Daily Backup Suggestions

I would like to use an external hard drive for daily back ups of my computer.

As of now I'm just copying a few important folders (20GB) to an external hard drive every Friday afternoon. You can guess how clumsy and un-reliable this is.

I was thinking of using Maxtors OneTouch II (250 GB hard drive) with Dantz Retrospect Express (backup software), as suggested in the February issue of PCWORLD magazine. However, I mostly want backup software that’s the easiest to install, setup, and run an incremental backup automatically every night. Also, can I just install some software and use my current hard drive (acomdata 120 GB Rocket Pod)? I don’t need to run an incremental back up on my entire computer's hard drive, just a few select folders.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

To answer your question with my own experience is this: I use Veritas/Seagate Backup Exec, Backup MyPC, STOMP et Al to my 200gb firewire ext. drive. I have the program backup all my documents and shareware originals to that drive nightly. The folder is a shared folder so that on my other 3 laptops I can run the same backup program over my network. This has worked quite well for me and I modeled it after what the company I work for does. At work we use the same software and backup to a Raid 10 200gb drive on a server. Works here for us and works at home for me.

IF you are not wanting incremental just overwrite use MS Backup that came with your system. It too will save to a disk the backup instead of to a tape drive.

Wow... check out all the awards Backup MyPC has won. I guess that makes my decision easy. Thanks!
