    graphic cards-confused!!

    Hi all,

I admit I don't know a great deal about computers, infact i find it all quite confusing. Nevertheless I have a P4,2.8 with 560mb of ddr ram,80gigs of hard drive .The graphics card is a 128mb g-force!!. Anyway I would like to replace the graphics card, when I try to run doom 3 it will only give minimum resolution and I think an upgrade for forth coming games, ie half life 2 is in order.
I would really, really appriciate any advise anybody could give on what to look for when getting a new graphics card. I have tried to read reviews and compare prices online but the more I read the more I find it all very confusing.
Hercules,ATI,G-force ?? they all seem to me to be good cards but have a bewildering specs. I am looking to spend £150 to £200 could somebody please recomend a good card.
    many thanks baxter

ive just ordered another ATI Radeon 9800pro which has 128 of ram and is 256bit. i bought my first one when i bought doom last week and knew my new nvidia5200fx wasnt up to the job, even on low quality setting. the radeon is about 110 pounds, but if your budget is bigger, then you can get some of the better models. theres actually a few of them that come with a money-off voucher for half-life 2 when its released.
alot of the time you get what you pay for.

Not a gamer myself but I'm very suprised at your card only supporting minimum res in the game?

Have you got the latest mobo graphics chipset drivers?

Have you got the latest drivers for your graphics card (from your manufacturer)?

    hi all,

thanks for the advise.I'm sorry but I really am stupid where computers are concerned and if it doesn't work the first time I am one of those that simply stares at the screen blankly.
I will look for up dated drivers from the manufactures but I'm sorry, "mobo graphics chipset drivers" ??
Could somebody please explain what I need to do here?
    Many thanks Baxter
