Unhappy DVD ROM/software not working - help please!

Some time ago i bought a DVD ROM to install in my pc. It was a Panasonic 16x48 IDE DVD ROM.
I also got some software and 'driver'(?) from a mate as I was told I needed something to actually run it when installed.
Put the DVD rOM in the box and connected the wires etc and installed the software (think its interactual player) and something else (NVID?).
When I put a DVD in, it does start up and I think Interactual opens, but the DVD seems to freeze on screen as soon as the title appears.
Looks like your digital tv does sometimes when it breaks up.

Can anyone help? its a bit annoying having a DVD player that doesn't work!
Will uninstalling and re-installing work? Is there better software/driver I can use?

Heres my pc spec case you need it: AMD athlon XP1700 processor; 128MB RAM (does this need upgrading?); 40GB.

    Thanks for help

    Spud thanks for the help.
Just to clarify this is not a DVD burner, just a player.
    Does your advise still apply?

    Thanks for help
It did come up with some drivers that need updating - all to do with sound, video and display so sounds about right - but am I right that the only way I can get these is to buy them off one of these sites or similar?
What I don't understand is why it never worked before though appreciate I need to upgrade drivers from time to time but surely this is just to improve quality?
    cheers for help

we should update drivers as they sometimes become out of date because often there are either security or confliction problems

also could you please tell me what drivers you need and i will find you some that are free

    hope this helps

The driver updater site you suggested says I need the following drivers:
Sound, video and game controllers - SiS 7012 Audio Driver
    Display adapters - NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 200
    Imaging devices - IXY 200a, PS S200, IXUS v2
    Thanks for your help

Thanks v much for these spud.
I've downloaded the Sis one fine.
I've been on to the site for the geforce driver but just wanted to make sure i'd picked the correct driver - it gives you 3 boxes
in the first i selected 'graphics driver' then in the next 'geforce and tnt2' then win 2k
is this the one i need? or do i need more as there are loads of others listed under the various headings in box 1. Can you have a look cheers.

Also the one for imaging whihc is probably for my canon digital camera and maybe my old printer - I went to the link you suggested and it had some ratings from others who had used it - there appeared to be quite a few who had problems and only 60% recommended it. As my camera software appears fine and does its job well do i really need it? i'm inclined on this ocassion to leave it. Can i have your professional advice - thanks.

If your Card is a GeForce or TNT2 and you have Win2k, you are going great!
