Put the DVD rOM in the box and connected the wires etc and installed the software (think its interactual player) and something else (NVID?).

Looks like your digital tv does sometimes when it breaks up.

Can anyone help? its a bit annoying having a DVD player that doesn't work!
Will uninstalling and re-installing work? Is there better software/driver I can use?

Heres my pc spec case you need it: AMD athlon XP1700 processor; 128MB RAM (does this need upgrading?); 40GB.

    Thanks for help
i have just been rereading your original post where you state that you bought the dvd and yet you got the driver from a friend

    question:
when you bought the dvd rom did it come with a cd or any thing else?

    confused mark

spud - we'll get there! appreciate your determination especially when trying to get some answers from me 2 help and i'm a mere novice!
    ok
when i got the DVD ROM it did not come witha CD. it was from e-buyer.
Someone gave me what i thought was driver on a CD - this is what i got -
NVIDIA drivers and VIA 4 in 1 drivers 4.45.
not sure exactly what these are. I'm now wondering if this 'VIA' driver is actually on the pc - do you want me to re-try this?

In answer to your other e-mail:
I've been to control panel - this is what it has - doesn't actually mention a panasonic DVD but a
MAT****A DVD ROM SR 8588 ( whihc must be the serial no. you wre after)
under properties in the 'driver' tab it lists this as the 'driver version'
    5.0.2183.1
on the 'driver details' button it lists this under driver details 5.00.2195.6655. It also has folders for locations on C:/ WINNT.

Do i go back to the website the other day and download the version for SR8588? or checking that VIA is installed. By the way what is VIA?

await your advice. I'll be online most of day as i'm off with injured leg so we may get sorted - many thanks!!

via is to do with a graphics card

nvidia drivers are for graphics cards

go back to that site i shew you the other day and install the driver for a sr 8588

mat**** is a trading name of panasonic

also i would go back to ebuyer and complain about not recievin g a driver instalation disc when you originally bought the dvd unless this was stated in the advirtising when you bought it as i know ebuyer are cheap but they can also be one pain in the arse if it goes tits up

let me know how you gwt on

i am in and out all day but i will keep an eye out for your response

    spud cheers
been back to the website - when i click onto the SR8588 driver it takes me to a panasonic page with loads of different downloads depending on certain criteria (i guess of my OS and DVDrom) its a bit of a nightmare and i haven't a clue wot to click on!! bit of a nitemare for the layman!!
i'm wondering if this is all worthwhile now!!
    any ideas
    ta

right i've got that - i've unzipped it but there is no exe file? it gives me a bin file which i don't know what to do with; a notepad and an application called DWL2 whihc doesn't seem to do anything if i click on it.??
    is it me being thick?

on your other point on ebuyer earlier - their customer service is sh1te and non-existent so i wouldn't even waste my energy!
just a q - this site i got the driver from has a program you can download which helps with choosing the best upgrade - as i'm trying to upgrade at the minute or rather think i need to at least double my current 128MB RAM to speed things up. can you recommend it or another one? i have asked a Q on hardware forum but no feedback yet?
    cheers as ever

can i entice you to buy another dvd rom or evem a burner in the uk they are only £50 i think that would save a lot of trouble over this driver as i ahve spoke to a mate and he reckons thats why ebuyer were doing them cheap as thay have had loads of trouble with the software for them why didn't i ask him a few days a go it would have saved us both a lot of hassle

if you want a hand to find a decent burner please let me know also are you in the uk or usa or toher as this will help me finding one close to where you live

    cheers for help spud
thanks for the link. I'll check it out.
yes i may be interested in a burner as long as my pc can support one.
Initially i was only trying to get sthg working that i had already purchased - ideally i wasn't looking to upgrade or get a new one!
it was really just to get this one working. if there is no way we can get this one going and you can't think of anything else then yes please suggest a new one. I am in the UK.
    thanks mate
