Correct CPU FSB Clock for XP2200
Hello.
Ive just bought an Athlon XP2200 retail CPU and have put it on my board successfully. I checked the speed in the BIOS and its only running at about 1.4G. I then noticed that the 'CPU FBS Clock' is set to 100mhz by default, and I think it should be saying 266mhz :-/
I can adjust this, but IM worried that Id be overclocking it, and that perhaps the supplied fan/heatsink wont be enough. Any ideas?? Should I change the setting?
Thanks

Have you got a 266MHz setting? I've never built an Athlon system so I'm not quite sure what your BIOS should show. If you don't have a 266MHz option, then set it to 133MHz and you should find that it multiplies by 2 (i.e. doubles up to 266) by itself. That should sort it out. That's not overclocking it - it's just getting it to run as fast as it ought to be

sweet. it goes from 100-280, but i guess it must be 2X as the minimum FSB is 200, so that would be 2x100 (obviously). Ive set it to 133 and now im running at 1.8G, which is ALOT better!!
ill say thanks again, but i owe you a barrel of beer by now
