    Finally a new MOBO, but...

Greetings everyone and Happy New Year , well I have got a new MOBO and am attempting to get the thing to work.
Plugged all the peripherals into the new board and turned on the PC. The PC went all the way to right before the Windows Boot Screen then proceeded to remain black with a little cursor blinking in the upper left hand screen. I figured that I would have to reinstall windows XP, so I shut the computer down and turned it back on now..., nothing. The PC powers on, but the Monitor goes into Power Save Mode.
I have attempted a few things like unplugging the MOBO Battery (changing the Battery), clearing the CMOS Settings (or so I think I did), by moving the Jumper. Unplugging the HDD's, Swapping the Power Supply with another.
I figured that the BIOS may need to be updated or what not, but I cant even access the Setup Screen to make any changes. "The first time I turned on the PC I went into the setup and noticed that the Processor was set in the BIOS to an Athlon Duron" Maybe that could have something to do with it?

    Athlon XP 2400+
    Windows XP Pro SP1
    K7S5A Pro EliteGroup MOBO
    350W PW
    60 Gig HDD
    250 Gig HDD Maxtor
    512 MB Ram DDR
    DVD/CD Burner
    1.5 Floppy
    NVidia 5600 Ultra

Thanks for any help in advance.

Right 1st things 1st. XP will NOT allow you to change more than about 4 things at anyone time. So when changing the Motherboard you go way over that (as there's loads of little changes, like chipsets, on-board LAN, audio, grpahics .. etc), therefore you have to run the recovery console by using the XP boot disk / CD.

As for your motherboard, put all the setting(s) back to the orginals in the manual (apart from the FSB speed).

Reboot the PC and re-instal XP

how would you set everything back to the original. (CMOS, unplugging the battery??) I have already done that. I cant even get to the setup screen.
the only thing that happens is the power comes on and the CD Drive Spins as does the DVD Drive and the HDD. the monitor stays in power save mode.

Right ok. Remove everything from your computer (internal - PCI cards only and external - printers , scanners .. etc), except for the graphics, keyboard, monitor and mouse and see if that makes a diffeence.

And I know you've already removed the battery once, but try and leave it out for about 10+ mins. That way the charge from the battery will be totally removed from the motherboard.

Sorry, had to go out of town for a minute.

Removed everything except for the graphics, keyboard, monitor and mouse, unplugged the battery for about 20 minutes, plugged them in and nothing. Powers gettting to the board b/c the Fan is running but nothing is coming on the screen.

Remove the memory to see if you are even getting to the POST...if you get beeps then you know the Processor is OK. I bought the wong MB for the Processor I had (MB was older than the Proc and didnt support a P4 2.8G) result was no beep codes, no video no access to the Bios. Put in the correct and I was able to continue. So, if the Proc died, you would get a beep code with memory out whereas with the working proc you would.

well, i unplugged the Memory from the board and hooked the speakers to the pc and plugged the internal speaker up and got no beep codes whatsoever. the only thing that is running is the pc fan.

Pull the PRocessor and inspect it for bent or broken pins. No beeps, no CPU.

i dont know AphJN, to me it doesnt look broken or bent, i mean besides looking broken how would you tell if the thing is burnt up or useless?

i have got the original processor (Athlon XP) that was in the pc when the thing started to go down hill, so i am going to install that one in the MOBO and see what happens.

i just dont have a good feeling for both of the processors the Duron and the Athlon XP, neither one of them is brand new.

Once again thanks for the patience in helping me figure this thing out.
