    2.8 Processor only running at 1.4 HELP ! ! !

    undefined
Hello I need help with a problem I am having. I have a Intel P4 2.8 GHz Processor, but when it boots up, I see it is only running at 1.4 GHz. I went into my BIOS, and tried to change the speed, but, it shows LOCKED, and try as i might, I cant unlock it to change the speed. So, short of asking Dear Abby, can anyone give me any help please ?

Do you have DDR RAM? If so it may be that the BIOS is showing the single and not the double rate, also Intels tends to be FSB locked by default.

What mobo do you have? What BIOS and Version?

    Your mobo manual is here:
    http://www.asrock.com/Drivers/Manual/P4i45E-R30_UM.pdf

From what I can gather it may be that your PC is setup correctly (it may also not be so, lack of FSB data means I can't tell) try running a benchmark like Sandra's SiSoft, and see how it compares speedwise to similiar PC's. If it compares about the same then it's a simple thing of the BIOS not doubling the FSB multiplier to indicate DDR ram fitted.

    Some PC's show :
FSB * Clock Multiplier = CPU speed

Some show FSB * 2 (DDR) = CPU speed

Chances are yours is setup OK - just showing the CPU speed less the doubling factor for DDR RAM

    From your manual:

    DRAM Frequency:
If set to [Auto], the motherboard will detect the inserted memory module(s) and automatically assign appropriate frequency.

For the setting of FSB 800, you may select [150MHz (DDR 300)], [200MHz (DDR 400)] as the operating frequency

For the setting of FSB 533, you may select [133MHz (DDR 266)], [177MHz (DDR 350)] as the operating frequency.

For the setting of FSB 400, you may select [133MHz (DDR 266)] as the operating frequency.

Again Your info does not show what type of RAM you have installed.
