Is your PC a tower ?? if so there should be some screws at the back holding the sides on ........also the CD rom should be fastened in by 4 screws (2 each side) plus the power cable, IDE cable and maybe a sound cable...

never having a CD shatter inside a PC I've hever had this problem but reading HERE your CD rom will be not much good after so you'll need a new one....Sorry

Yes, I'd agree. You don't want to get your CDROM drive spinning up again with bits of plastic floating about inside - with the cost of CD and DVD drives being so ridiculously low these days, it's not worth the risk of an electrical fire.

I do hope you're talking about a PC and not a laptop though

kool thanks, so all i do is open it up and turn the vacuum cleaner on? or are there some loose pieces it might suck up.

No you save all the hassle... remove the CD rom and replace it with a new one .in the long run it will be easier and safer..

    1. Remove the CD.

    2. Make a note of what leads fit where.

    3. Open the Drive door with your finger and shake until all bits have found there way out - my XP disk blew up on me and this was my method. Can't guarantee you'll get all the bits out btw.

Removing your CD cover will invalidate any warranty you may have on the drive.
