If your hard disk light comes on and your CDROM drive is being accessed, then it sounds like it has got PAST the BIOS and is looking for a drive to boot up from. My guess is that your speaker connection on the motherboard is the wrong way round or not connected on the right pins - if you could spend another few minutes double-checking that, you might find that you can hear a BIOS beep code through the speaker that tells you what the problem area is

Also, as you've already suggested, it certainly wouldn't do any harm to clear the CMOS to reset it back to 'factory defaults'.

well, I plugged the speaker wire onto the 4 (across, only 2 side pins are used...) pins, as well as tried to turn it around incase the +/- pins were off, neither produced any beeps... i'm very sure thats plugged in correctly... if vid card is problematic (or non-existent), would it beep accordingly(assuming the speaker works and everything else is dandy)?

Yes, it should do. I've got a feeling it's one long beep repeating for a video problem.

turns out I didn't connect the 12V power supply (didn't remember doing it be4... yeah... i know...)... so, whoever said the PSU was messed, i guessed they were right, but thanks anyway to all who gave comments... =D
