Visioneer 7700 USB scanner
I have a brand new scanner and it doesn't work.
It is an older model. The install disk doesn't include an XP driver, so I downloaded it from the visioneer website.
The problem is that my computer cannot recognize the scanner.
I have a dell 2400 with xp home. I know 3 others with the same scanner. None of those computers recognize it either.
Does anyone else have this brand of scanner and have you gotten it to work?
Thanks!

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure how to interpret this! I've never heard of Visioneer so I'm guessing that it's a budget brand (if you're from the UK - if you're somewhere else, then I just haven't heard of them over here). I'm also guessing that, as you know 3 other people that bought them and have found they don't work and also as you've said it's "brand new" and "an older model", then you've got them dirt cheap from somewhere and not from a shop that you could just return them to under warranty?!
It sounds to me like a duff driver from the web site.
Let me have a little look around and see if I can find anthing out ........ If I don't get back to you in the next 20 minutes, it means I haven't found anything!

Found a review from February 2001 - a 600x1200 dpi scanner (pretty good 4 years ago) with a built-in reader for CompactFlash and SmartMedia cards - cool! Back then, it was retailing for $150 US dollars.
Visioneer Inc are a Californian company, a subsidiary of Taiwanese company Primax Electronics Ltd.

Visioneer class this model as "End-Of-Life", which means no phone, fax or email support.

Blimey - if you buy a new one from their online store and send your old one back to them, they'll give a 25% rebate - that's pretty impressive.

The Windows XP-compatible driver for the 7700 model was released in January 2001. It might be worth trying to install the 7710 driver as this was released some 14 months later - plenty of time to find and resolve problems. If what you've got at the moment doesn't work at all, then trying out a driver for a different model certainly can't do any harm

Thanks. I will give those ideas a try over the course of the week and see what happens.
