PC starts but Monitor seems disconnected?

    Hi,

    My system is:

    Soltek MB
    AMD 1700+ cpu
    1/2 Gig RAM
    OS: WinXP Pro
    GeForce Graphics

    My Problem is:

The system has been working fine for the last 2 years, then I decided to reformat and switch my 2 drives so the larger, faster one was primary and had the OS on. Everything went well with no apparent problems, I reinstalled WinXP and all was well.

Shortly afterwards I started getting the problem. About 50% of the time when I power up the system it appears to power up ok (no MB error beeps or anything and it sounds normal) however there is no picture on the monitor, in fact the monitor light is orange indicating that there is no signal.

After I reset the PC there is a 50% chance that it boots normally, sometimes it takes upto 3 resets before everything returns to normal.

My friend has exactly the same problem and his occurred (and is still occuring) after reinstalling Windows but no hardware was altered in his case.

Any ideas why this is happening? I have checked for loose cables between the base unit and the monitor and found nothing.

Try seating the AGP card again, then again, and again - I had a similiar problem and I was convinced my card was seated correctly, it wasn't.

    Hey...

That seems to have worked, well for the first time in weeks the PC started first time this morning so fingers crossed.

I guess constant use and expansion must have moved it out enough to cause an intermitant problem.

    Thanks for that
