Go to Crucial and put in your make and model, the memory selector there will tell you exactly what memory you need. HTH
What OS?
98 cannot see above about 256Mb
XP Doesn't improve much over 756
Suggest taking a RAM module out and taking it to the shoppe with ya.
There are freeware progs that can tell you like Sandra SiSoft.

Your PC manufr is irrelevant, just take your chip in and say 'Gimme one of these'

I have 512MB of DDR2100 in my computer as you can see below. 512MB is VERY good for my needs, Games, Surfing, Programming (Turing). I play Call of Duty, and get minimal lag. You may have diffent conditions, in this case, i would run a DAL hardware scan, and check your ram either there, or on the label in your computer, along the side of the chip. I suggest if your must upgrade, keep the 512 in your comp, and add a 256mb chip. That should be good enoughy, unless you have a very good graphics card, and run Unreeal Tourament, and Halo 2 at the same time. 1024MB would be reccomended.
bah, pc2100 is not for meOriginally Posted by puterno
if u have pc2700 youll see a huge increase, and to the original poster, if your motherboard has 2 dimm slots then i suggest going for the 1024mb ram because youll have 2 slots filled but if you have 4 slots, try going for another 512 stick because you have room to expand later on
It seems that many people are going for RAM upgrades these days just because it seems to be the "fashionable" thing to do. Bhavz, if you don't know how much more memory you need, how do you know that you need any more at all?!
Before making any decision, find out how much your PC is actually using! To do this, run whatever you would expect to run during a heavy session on your PC. Then, press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] to go into Task Manager. On the Performance tab, you'll see a value for 'Peak' memory usage in the 'Commit Charge' section. That's the most that your system has tried to use during the current Windows session. If it's way below the 524,288Kb of RAM that you've already got installed, then there's little point in fitting any more.
P.S. I don't play games on my PC or do hefty video editing, etc. but I do expect it to run quite a lot simultaneously without slowing down at all. My Windows 2000 (bogged down with SP4 and all the Microsoft updates) runs very happily with 512Mb RAM installed.
