Strange Lockup

Strange Lockup
Hello pc techers out there. I got a rather wierd pc problem that i cannot figure out. My other pc would lockup at random at various times. It may stay on for 2 hours or 3 hours or maybe even a day and no lockups. When i have to do a hard reboot sometimes the monitor would blink and it wouldnt kick in. It takes a few restarts to get to the motherboard logo screen. Sometimes it would freeze there and sometimes it would freeze at the black screen that shows the video card info. It locks up while in bios and it locks up while windows loads. and it will lockup just about any times during windows and during boot up. I changed out the ram and the power supply thinking it could be the problem. I put the ram in this pc that im typing with and i put the hardrives and stuff that was in my old pc in this one all but power supply. This pc hasnt done it so i know it has to be something in my mother board or something in something else. Ive took pc apart and unconnected everything in it and re attached cables. i took out the battery and everything figuring a bios reset would cure this. Is my motherboard shot?? Its a good mother board well its a better board then i got on this pc.Its a 1st mainboard 1.1 ghz. Maybe it could be heat sink or something??? Im at my wits end...

ohh and i done tried reformatting and updating drivers and getting all the patches for windows and stuff so i know its not software related....

yes maybe its a heating probem, general lockups at random times, maybe you were Overclocking? or running some intense programs? try cleaning out your fans (with those compressed air cans) and adding addition fans to your current comp. Its not really a big risk because fans/heatsinks are merely 5-10 each.

ive tried the compressed air on the fans and stuff i got a fan on the heat sink and big fan in the back. Some people say that if the heatsink aint in good contact with the processor it will cause it to over heat and it wouldnt matter how many fans was in it.. Now i dunno if mine is over heating ive ran tests on it and the temp has came back like 23 or something.. i really hope its not my board going out.. cause its like a 1.1 ghz processor... cant add that to my other board can i? to my pc thats like a 475 mhz?
cant be over clocking cause i took all the cables off the board and took out battery which should reset bios. .. Plus i never messed with bios before so i dont think i could over clock it by accident.. and also this has never done this before and i still got the same number of fans and stuff in the board..... So could the heatsink need some compound? Maybe the other went bad or something? Cant be hardware cause im using the other stuff on this pc.. All but video card and cd drive and videocard dont have a slot on this pc for it to go ... so maybe its my video card causing the problem or maybe the cdrom? it locksup without me even using the rom. its went about 2 days maybe without it locking up.. So i dont think it could be over heating either... then again who really knows lol Could a bad video card or one thats going bad cause my problems??
Ohh and ive unhooked my cdrom before and it still caused these lockups.. My brother gave the board to me and he hooked it all up and it was doing fine..
So i guess it could be a bad video card or one thats going bad???

My PC case seems to fit badly and the card in the expansion slots cant be screwed down otheise they lift out of the socket.
Occasionally when i move something a card may become a bit loose (usually my graphics card or wifi card) and this causes the excact symptoms you describe.
Try taking out any cards, clean the terminals and the sockets, make sre they fit well when u put them back in.
