    re: floppy disk(s) error (40)

We cleaned my computer of dust. We put it back together.
During booting up, we got the floppy error, and it asked
us to hit F1 to continue booting....from
this time my floppy drive didnt work anymore. We replaced
the floppy drive with a new one, including the cable.
It was hooked up correctly, and the power supply was
double checked on another floppy in another computer.
I still get the floppy error msg when booting up with
the new floppy drive. It trys to work during the boot..
the light comes on, and it runs for a second.. whereas
the old one wouldnt even do that much before i put the
new one in... Now at this point, i still have to push F1,
to complete booting. The floppy IS registered in the
BIOS... and after i hit F1, and the boot continues,
the POST screen that shows the drives, also shows the
floppy drive in there.. Then when Windows is finished
starting, the floppy drive is in the device manager,
and in Windows Explorer.. But, when i try and put a
floppy disk in to read it, it runs for awhile, and
then error's saying, the disk needs to be formatted,
where as the old floppy drive, would not even run, and
error'd saying, the device was not ready...
What is causing this? Did something happen during the
cleaning? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou!

have you checked the device manager?

    start > run > devmgmt.msc

check the floppy drive ... try to update drivers
