    screen resizes

hi guys, can you help me solve why my computer screen resizes if i leave it for any length of time. i have an oldish, but completely fine in every way, NCD monitor ( and i only have this because it's all i can afford right now) but unknown to me my young son fiddled with the screens horizontal adjusters, which are buttons under a flap on the front of the machine, and although i put it back so that the picture fills the screen as it was before, when i return to the pc after the screen saver, although we only have it set for the black blank screen, when i go to do something and come back again i have about a one inch black band across the top of the screen. i adjust it again and hey presto it fills the screen, but does anyone know why this is happening and how i can rectify the problem.
your thoughts and ideas please. thanks in anticipation.

Well it sounds like a refresh rate problem but if you haven't changed any of your graphics card settings, then I can't see why that should be the case.

It might possibly be that you've adjusted the picture size to be slightly too big - sometimes monitors can get upset if you push the picture past the limits of top, bottom, left or right. Try adjusting the picture to be slightly smaller. Then leave it until the screen saver comes on for a few minutes, then get the picture to come back on and see if it's any better.

    Don't use the screen saver.
