I have a Compaq computer Windows 98. It was working fine then when I went to turn the computer on only the monitor will turn on. I tried using a different outlet but no luck. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!

Can you confirm:

1. The PC gives a single beep after BIOS POST (if different please post back result ie 'long, short, short, long')

2. The BIOS POST is visible on your screen

3. The PC's keyboard light flashes at some point after startup

None of the above. The moniter will come on but when I push the on button to the brain nothing happens

Swap the power leads for the monitor and base unit. Then, if you find that the base unit switches on but the monitor doesn't, you know you've got a faulty power lead, which might just be that the fuse in the plug has blown.

Let us know if that does or doesn't help.

In addition to DJ's advice - did the monitor LED (assuming it has one) come on? Usually orange/amber to show power saving mode and green to show power up.
