Wow, that's a lot of drives. Are these drives physically located inside your PC or are they mapped drives on another computer over a network?

If they are physical drives, what kind of drives are they that you've lost? Have you lost partitions from a hard disk or are the CD / DVD drives etc?

these drives were physicaly located inside the PC. I lost them from the hard disk drive its like the C drive but this one is a H drive it hasn't got anything to do with th DVD drive or the CD drive!!!!

Right-click on My Computer (desktop icon on Windows 2000 or Start Menu shortcut on Windows XP). Select 'Manage' from the context menu.

When the Computer Management screen opens, click on Disk Management. On the right-hand side, you'll see a list of all of the partitions that Windows is aware of and some kind of status message such as "Healthy". You might be able to see your missing partitions in there.

If you can, right-click on them and go to Properties on the context menu. When the Properties window opens, click the Tools tab and then click 'Check Now' to run Checkdisk.

As I don't have any faulty partitions, I'm not quite sure what options the Disk Management screen will give you to sort it out but have a look around all the menus and right-click options and you may be able to sort it out.

If you're on Windows 98, then you can ignore all of that. You'll need a Windows 98 boot disk with Scandisk and Fdisk on it.

I'm assuming here that all of your partitions are on one hard disk. If your missing partitions are all on a second hard disk, then it could be a hardware failure or disconnected cable inside the PC.

Let us know how you get on

Only if you give ME a bit more information! Are you running Windows 2000 or XP? Did you go into Disk Management? Did the missing partitions not show up in there at all? Have you got several gigabytes on your hard disk marked as free space? Is this all on one single hard disk drive?

A back file? I don't know what you mean by that.

Was there an area of the disk marked as 'Free Space' in the Disk Management screen?

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to help much more with this problem. A screen shot of the Disk Management screen would be REALLY useful.
