I have a broadband connection using a router with built in firewall.

It has been workin fine until the other day, when i was receving slow downloads. Firstly, i tried to open a few ports that were bein blocked by the firewall inside the router. to do this i needed to access the settings page (via an default ip in my internet explorer) but my password didnt work.

When I tried to view a webpage it suddenly didn't work. I am unable to download or access the internet now. Please help. When i try to access a website on internet explorer, it says 'cannot find server', i tried putting the connections setting to 'automatically detect settings' it still didnt work. I think there is a problem with router blocking the connections.

Still no replies, as i dont know a great deal about modems, routers etc and focus more on the PC components/hardware issues, i am left absolutely clueless as to what action to take.

This query is actually for a friend of mine, and afta i have been unable to help him i hope someone on this forum will be.
