DVD writer has identity complex!?!?!?
I purchased and installed an I/O Magic internal DVD+-RW/+-R 16x dual format double layer DVD writer. When I put in a real DVD, i.e. a rented movie it works as advertised with no problems. However, when I place a disc that is recordable DVD media burnt or unburnt the drive seems to think that it is only a CD player.
I have an AMD Athlon 3000+ running Windows XP Home Edition with 512mb of Ram.
I am seeing the changes between the recognition of the drive type on the My Computer page and when you try to bring up the drive it shows the message E:\ unaccessable "Incorrect Function".

Do you have the proper software installed?
From the above link:

CD/DVD Mastering Software"

Thanks for the info jephree. I burnt a backup of one of my data DVDs onto a DVD and it does work as long as it is done through NERO Burning ROM. If I put in a DVD that was burnt on another computer it will not read it on that drive, but if I put in the DVD that I just burnt into that drive it does read it. I don't understand why it reads DVDs that it made but not the ones that were made on another computer. Also, the writer did not come with any driver software it only came with the NERO Suite software. THX
