    Can you use any power supply on any computer?

    Can you use any power supply on any computer, as mine is broken and i was told by pc world that i would have to contact hp to get a new one. however i have found some on the web for £24. does anybody know if this will work?

    im dont think you can , youl want to check in depth before you try anything . . . dont want to blow your pc up if you get storms often btw you might want to look at this

    surely if you gat a bigger supply than you want chou the power supply will run a lot easier saving on stress of the unit and not creating as much heat

    The PSU MUST be the correct type for your motherboard style ie AT, XT.

    The PSU must be rated at least as high as the one your replacing (measured in Wattage - or Watts).

    Not all PSU's are what they claim, so if you have a 350W PSU and are replacing it with a 350W PSU made by another manufacturer then (and I know this is a bit confusing but it can and does occur) sometimes the manufacturers make claims that their units cannot quite support, so best go for a 400 (in this case) and if your pocket can support it go for the highest rating you can afford to cover future upgrades etc.
