I have Pentium 2 with WIN XP PRO.I have a Sony CD drive "Burner" unhooked from another PC I had.The drive was working great untill I tried to install it on my other PC.It will detect it and when I open my drive with a CD in it it wont show anything.So my problem is it does detect it but it wont read anything and when I check on properties it says the drive is working normal.So please help me someone!

Do you recieve any message when you try to access disk?
Do you have any Burning software installed?

Have you checked the Device Manager?
Start/ Run/ devmgmt.msc
Click the drive; see if you can update the drivers.

I tried it already.It says it cant find a better drive than the one it is using.No I dont get a message when I try to use the drive it will just open the folder but its empty.I will try to put a self opening CD like WIN XP and it wont open it.I also have nero and that software dosnt dected it will write ISO images but nothing to do with the CD Burner.Any more ideas.

so this drive worked ok on another machine? was it running XP?

do you see any errors in the event viewer:

start/ run/ eventvwr.msc

open the application & also the system tabs looking for red X errors that might relate to the CD drive.

I tried DAL Hardware Scan and once its open I get an error report saying (Type mismatch: loadscript ) Yes my other computer was using XP and NO I dont have error reports relating my CD drive. Inside my PC I have my regular CD Drive witch almos works but thats just because I need to recalibrate the laser lense.My Regular CD Drive is set to Master and I put the CD Burner drive that doest work on Slave and ive tride connecting just the Burner in master but I get the same results.Any more Ideas.

have you uninstalled dthe drivers from the previous cd drive as sometimes this can give a conflict when using newer drivers

I not sure what your talking about but the only drives it detects is my Normal CD drive and the Burner that im having trouble with.Ive tride uninstaling the burner and retarsting the computer and I get the same results

to install a nother cd rom you must have taking one out

try putting a cd in the troublesome drive then going to my computer then right clicking on the drive then it should auto run

you know what know it says theres no CD in it.It says please incert a CD in your E: Drive.
