MeX, I know it's little comfort but this issue is wide spread & is divided among those that blame the drive & those that blame XP.Originally Posted by MeX
One 'trick' that sometimes seems to work is: with your cd in the drive, then right click the drive via my computer and choose to eject. then push the tray back in & see if the disc is found.
here are some other threads re: please insert a cd
when you clicked on scan did you choose to open or run?
in other words: do not choose save.
otherwise i dont know why it wouldnt work.
anyway: what is the make & model of your drive?
the burner should be master... but installed alone it is the same problem you say...is it set to cable select or did you change the jumpers?

Thanx Ill take a look and ill get back to you hope I solve my problem.
You might have a faulty CD drive. It happened to me. Try resetting the BIOS (try and find out in the motherboad booklet how to do this).
Other thing to check is the jumper setting at the back of the CD drive (set it to Slave or Master depending what you had before). Hope you find a fix.
