How to salvage my Hard Disk?
My old laptop broke (just stopped switching on) and as it was rather old I opted to buy a new one instead of get it fixed. However, there's some things on my old hard drive I would like. How can I go about getting them off of there (assuming the hard drive still works)? Is there a cable or something I can get to attach the old hard drive to my new laptop? What's it called? Is what I'm asking viable and how complicated and expensive will it be? Thanks

If you were buying the laptop from a computer shop they would be able to extract the stuff off the old drive for you. The only other thing I can think of is an external kit for the HD.

Do yo have a normal PC that you can put the laptop hard disk into? This is the cheapest kind of adaptor you can buy as far as I know. I do this quite often for using laptop hard disks where the laptop has died.
If not, then you should be able to get an external drive kit, as Tassie Devil said. What country are you in? If you're in the UK, I should be able to find you a link to buy one online

DJNafey, I am in the UK so do you think you could find me a link for the external drive kit? I'll look myself also, but just in case you know somewhere cheaper! Cheers

Blimey - I thought that would be really easy to find but I've just spent over half an hour searching all over and can't find anything at all
My suggestion would be to do a search on Google but don't bother looking at Insight UK or Cables Direct or Leads Direct as they don't seem to have anything.
If you could borrow someone's PC for an hour or so, then an adaptor to put a laptop hard disk inside a PC will only cost a few pounds and they're available from loads of places.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
