    toshiba satellite 210ct

I have fitted a new hard drive to a Toshiba Satellite 210ct laptop, the disk is formatted but has not yet an operating system installed. When I switch on the computer fails to see the "A" drive but reports the following message.
"This BASIC was aborted because the machine has no ROM BASIC. Use Toshiba BASIC. the computer then just hangs, any ideas?.Also which key needs to be pressed to enter the Bios setup ?
    Thanks

Does the laptop actually have a floppy drive fitted securely into it? Or is it external? Or are you expecting an A:> prompt even without a floppy drive connected?

You may find that the floppy drive is disabled in the BIOS.

I'm not sure about your exact model of laptop but I tend to find that most BIOSes can be entered by using F1, F2 or Delete. If that doesn't work, try F4, F10, F12 or Escape.

It sounds like, when the drive was formatted, it got some kind of DOS-style Toshiba recovery system loaded onto it ..... kind of. This message will probably disappear if you boot up from a Windows boot disk.
