Question Need help norton 2003 firewall antivirus

I need some help so I can avoid paying money to symantec for tech support for a product and subscription i purchased!!

was having problems with computer and did a full system restore. when restored the version of norton antivirus that came with the computer did not install correctly because, as i understand it now, of spyware. i did a spyware sweep and got rid of spyware but cannot find the infected and wrongly installed version of norton antivirus. i have a sunscription to norton antivirus and a firewall. i have the cdrom for the firewall as i bought it at a store but that will not install correctly. the syamtec/norton website is uselss unless you purchased the product online. now they want $30 to give me live tech support. i tried the online automated but cannot seem to find a fix. so here is what i need:

    1. how to find and uninstall the bad version of norton antivirus (does not show in control panel/add/delete/programs)
    2. how to have norton antivirus installed without a cdrom

    THANKS!

    Hi lawgrl73, welcome to D-A-L.com

I'm not running Norton Anti-Virus but I am running Symantec Internet Security which is Norton Anti-Virus plus some extra stuff. I've had a look on my PC and have a suggestion - it might help, it might not:

Go into Windows Explorer and navigate through the tree
    Expand your C: drive
    Expand your Program Files folder
    Expand your Common Files folder
    Expand your Symantec Shared folder

Do you have SymSetup folder in there and does it contain a single EXE (application) file? If so, double-click it - you should find that's the Setup program.

Let us know if that helps. If it doesn't, we'll come up with another answer

Oh, and to answer your second question, I haven't quite understood why you can't use a CD-ROM to install Norton Anti-Virus. You need to get the installation files onto your PC somehow.

If you don't have a working CD-ROM drive, you might be able to use a ZIP drive or a USB key if you can borrow the installation files from someone else (assuming you have a legitimate licence for the software of course!). Alternatively, you can buy a copy online and download it from http://www.symantec.com.

Might be cheaper and a lot easier to pay Symantec tech support to help you out.

HI DJNafey, thanks for replying. First, regarding the cdrom, my drive is fine, the problem is tried installing the firewall from cdrom I have but it does not upload correctly since the defective files are already on the computer. As for the antivirus program, it was already on my computer when i purchased it and i continued the subscription after the trial period was over. when i had graphics problem with the computer, tech support at gateway said the only way for me to fix the problem was to do system restore. of course at that point noone told me it was probably spyware. anyway, i restored the computer and when the original software was installed back on it got attached by spyware. so, now i ran spy sweeper and got rid of the spyware but the installed norton antivirus is on there and i can't get it off. since the norton antivirus came with the computer, i do not have a cdrom for it but i have a subscription. i can call symantec and ask them to send me a cdrom since i have a subscription but if i use them to fix the bad installation, they'll charge me. anyway, hope that explains it better.

i tried what you said and there is a symantec folder but not EXE file...mostly DLL files.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
