    Cannot see existing network anymore

Staying in a hotel that has a wireless router (chinese brand) hardwired to a second router (TPLink WR542G) upstairs - so there are 2 wireless networks. I was logged on to the second network when a brief power outage hit. After restarting the computer I can no longer find the network upstairs. Two other computers can log on to the network(so I know it works), but when I search for available networks, it does not appear. If I go downstairs I can logon to the first wifi network with no problem(so I know my LAN card is working). I also plugged in a USB LAN device and it also fails to find the second network. How can the problem be confined to one computer on one network? I've tried resetting the router, starting/stopping connections, turning security programs off , releasing the IP config. Anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe the device upstairs was moved and the antennas need to be moved. Can you move closer for a test?

The router and antenna have not moved. I can stand right next to the router and my computer cannot see the network, yet my ipod can see it without a problem. I am sending this message from my computer logged into the wifi network downstairs. So it is only my computer affected and only the one network.

Can you delete the network, then try to find it again?

I did try this (under Wireless Network Connection Properties) . The secondary network is not visible so I cannot reconnect. I tried to manually set up the network, thinking maybe it wasn't broadcasting anymore, but this doesn't work either. Still stumped.

Hmmm, I don't know then. My guess would be a security or firewall setting blocking this public network.

I know on one of my systems, I have to enable SSID broadcasting to set up networking, then once setup, I can disable it again. But of course, you would need admin access to WAP to change that setting. Does the hotel have a tech support to help you connect? Many do. Or better yet, Ethernet?

    Hello,
Do you have a firewall? It can block access.
    Try a System Restore.

a system restore might fix that but thats a last resort. We could use a little more infor or at least a little better description of the problem. SUch as is it a laptop or a desktop? If it is a desktop and you are no longer receiving broadcasts, this could potentially be just a freaky fry of the board. Power surges can do wierd things to PC's so unless it was plugged into an power surge, this could be the culprit. Gives us a little more info we can work with and we can find a solution
