    Ping blocking

    Hi Guys.

I use windows Vista on desktop pc and windows xp on a laptop and just tested both for security using the Sheilds Up service.

I failed the ping test so I was just wondering how I can configure it in my firewall?

    Hi Eddy,

I Googled that and came up with a url of Petri Co. (can't post the entire url as I'm new here)

That particular answer was for XP but perhaps they also have an answer for Vista.

    Hi Eddy,

You are probably connecting through a router as you have more than one computer using your Internet connection. The router may be pre-configured to block PING requests. This is a security feature so that hackers can't get any response on your IP address. However, if you can log into the router, you can normally change that setting.

Incidentally, do you need to have PING responses working in order to run the rest of the Shields Up checks or is there another reason why you want to switch it on? If you don't understand what PING responses are or why you want them, then don't switch them on.

    Hope that helps.
