    problems with network card

    hi!

i have a linksys wrt54g2 (wireless G) network card and asus eee pc 1000he (wireless n card) using windows xp.

I cant connect. at first it was saying limited or no connectivity. i googled it and there were suggestions of typing the ip address manually so i did. i got from the cmd ipconfig from another laptop that is using the same connection. its using windows 7 if that matters.

after i did that the limited or no connectivity thing is gone but i still cant connect. when i'm on firefox its saying "server not found"

    help!!!!

You answered your own question. You have a wireless G router and a wireless N card. Time to ask Santa for new router that supports the new wireless 802.11n protocols, or connect directly to one of your current router's 4 Ethernet ports via Ethernet cable.

the network card from the laptop says n but from the specs of my model it b/g/n...so should it be compatible? and something else wrong?

If that card truly does support b/g/n, then it should work. I note here Asus has a new LAN driver dated 2009/11/10. You might check that. Are there any errors in Device Manager?

I'm afraid I don't know what the problem is. You might still make sure you have the latest driver. In looking at your manual, you must make sure the Fn F2 Radio Tower option is set to WLAN, and the System Tray icon shows that WLAN is enabled.

When following the instructions on 4-2, do you see your WAP (wireless access point)

I have a Asus EEE 900 that runs Linux. There could be 2 reasons why you can't connect. One would be The Hotkeys for turning Wireless on and off . The other is that wireless may be turned off in bios.

    Hot Keys
    Function Keys:
    Fn+F1 Suspend switch
    Fn+F2 WLAN switch
    Fn+F3 Keyboard light down
    Fn+F4 Keyboard light up
    Fn+F5 Brightness down
    Fn+F6 Brightness up
    Fn+F7 LCD on/off
    Fn+F8 LCD/CRT switch display
    Fn+F9 TouchPad Lock
    Fn+F10 Volume on/mute
    Fn+F11 Volume down
    Fn+F12 Volume up
    Fn+Ins Numeric Key Pad on/off
    Fn+Num Lk: Scroll Lock on/off
    Fn+Del Scroll Lock on/off
    Fn+Space Power 4Gear
    Fn+C Splendid
    Fn+V: Life Frame
    Fn+↑: Stop
    Fn+↓: Play/Pause
    Fn+ ←Skip to Previous Track
    Fn+ →Skip to Next Track

    To get into Bios
Esc key for changing boot order
F2 for getting into changing settings for Bios.

Edit: You should see a blue led light lit up on the front of your Netbook when the wireless is turned on by the way.

    Good Luck with it.
