I am connected to a university network via a LAN ethernet cable, and recently it has started to suddenly get limited connectivity. The only way I have managed to solve this is to force shut down, and then restart, as when I click restart, my laptop doesn't shut down properly. Windows says to contact my ISP but my flatmates are getting no problems like I am.

If you are on a university campus there should be networking support personnel. I strongly suggest that you contact them because they are your ISP and it is their responsibility to ensure that all authorized computers can connect to the internet. They will be able to help you better & faster than us. If they won't then they aren't doing their jobs nor are they doing what you are paying them to do.

The problem isn't with the connection, it's with my network adapter, as my flatmates who are on the same network aren't getting this problem. I've tried reinstalling the driver but the problem still persists. When I try disabling then re-enabling the LAN connection, on disabling, it doesn't do anything. So I think there is some probelem with my laptop and it's not the network I'm connected to.

It may be that there are very specific settings for wireless devices to connect to the network so my recommendation stands that you should talk to the networking people there. If the computer is recognizing your adapter then there is probably nothing wrong with your driver so it is either your settings or you don't have permission to access the network.

It is not a wireless network, it is a LAN network in the accomodation area..

Oh. I still suggest that you talk with the network administrators.
