Im using 10/100 Intel Pro onboard lan driver and since i reformated my computer, ive had quite a few problems on the internet. The most wierd thing is that my internet tends to timeout. Now im not sure wether you call this timeout or not but what happens is: After going into 1 domain and searching 2-3 pages in that domain, it seems like the whole site has gone offline and all i get is the Cannot find server error. Wierder than that is that this doesnt happen on my laptop which i have tried using wireless AND wired and works perfectly.

I have also tried reformating and reinstalling windows and those havent helped either. Although i am sure it is not anything to do with the internet cable because i plugged the same wire into my labtop and it worked fine.

it could be a firewall problem, have you installed the LAN drivers?

It was actually a firewall problem ^^;. At first i thought you meant the computers firewall but i entered my router control and disabled the routers firewall. Thnx again.

Oh wait wait >.<. Now my speed is really low. I used to download about 500-600kb/s but now im downloading only 100kb/s.

what speed is your connection?

Tiscali Max Unlimited - 8mb. Got it 10 days ago.

before you got tiscali did you have problems before?

are you using an extension lead between the phone socket and the modem?

have you tried a speed test to see how fast your broadband is?

it may advertise 8MB but that's if everything is perfect and you're not to far from the exchange

I just ran a speed test. 5592 kb/s download speed and 237 kb/s upload. Took the test at www.speedtest.net . The thing is that before i switched off the firewall, the internets speed was higher than this. Could there be some options in my routers firewall that makes my internet faster? I am also getting some internet lags now.

This started happening after i saw this automatic download coming up called Starware recipe a few times and i didnt even have IE open.

EDIT- Can i just confirm that this is my comps problem. Internet is working fine on my labtop.

^ Fixed it by running an adware scan. Full of updates here XD. It also made the internet faster to some extent.

Just some tips on how to make my internet go to the maximum speed and the name of an antivirus/malware/adware/spyware that doesnt bother you alot would wrap up this case .
