Re: Complete know-nothing, would be SO grateful for help.
is the PC that is located at the cable modem and wireless router?
Did you buy a wireless card for it as well or is it a laptop?

No, I didn't buy a Wireless Card. I bought a Wireless USB Adapter,
http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...ProductID=4086
this one to be exact. And no, the PC connected to the Modem and Router works fine. It's the other one.

This is an amateur doodle of what my setup is like. I'm almost certain that nothing's wrong with it now.
I also reckon it's probably not a browser issue. After using Firefox, Internet Explorer AND trying to register Microsoft Office, with none of them working, I think it's probably something else.
Using my little bits of understanding, I'm guessing that the problem could be something to do with the computer not being able to use the signal it's receiving, rather than an Error with the signal itself.
EDIT: Okay, I think I know what the problem may be down to.
Everytime I try to connect to the internet using the 2nd computer, I click the "Repair" button, and everything works fine until it comes to renewing the IP address. It just stays on that "renewing your IP" thing until it eventually gives up and lists the IP as the reason for cancellation.
I've just tried connecting to the router with my Nintendo DS, using the AOSS feature on the router (which I also used when connecting the other computer, rather than SSID and all that complicated stuff.) and my DS connected to the router fine (as did the second computer) but when performing a connection test it said this:
Unable to optain an IP address. Move within range of the access point or check DHCP settings.
Now, I know it's not the first option, as I'm sitting RIGHT NEXT to my router with my DS. So I'm guessing it's the second one I need to do. But I don't know what DHCP is, or how to check my settings. Any help please?
Once again, thanks for all the help!

ok, from the PC that is wired to the router, you'll need to login into the router from there. usually its an IP address like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, the user manual for the router should have all that detail.
Once logged in, check out the wireless tab/section and make sure that its enabled, and for simplicity, lets make sure its an open network so that there is no security issues.
Also, from the main wireless page, make sure that you create a simple, yet unique SSID for your router, so that its easy to identify from other devices that are trying to connect to it from inside your home. When trying to connect the other devices it should find wireless network "Your SSID" you entered.
If you are unsure about the logging in, there should be a CD that came with router, which should have a setup wizard. Personally, i have never had success with them, and just login and setup that way (first few times was all trial and error)
Give it a whirl and post back here plz.

Hey, sorry, it's been a bit of a whirlwind recently trying to keep on top of everything at the mo', including this bladdy internet.
I tried to do the first step you mentioned, doing the IP address thing, but it doesn't work, unless I click "Work Offline" but then I can't access anything else on there until I click "Work Offline" off, at which point the whole thing stops working anyway.
Oooh, by the way, I know you're not allowed to do it, but I just wanted to see for definite whether this new computer was the problem, so I logged on to my neighbours wireless networky thing and, well, I'm typing this from the new, previously internet-less computer.
So it's definitely, definitely a router/downstairs pc issue.
What can I do about the router login thing?

Hey, I didn't even see that edit when i posted, unless i somehow posted while you were editing, but Anyhow, I forget now, this new PC that wont renew IP, is it also a wireless PC? Ok, so when you load up the software that came with the wireless USB adapter, there should be an option to "view available wireless networks" Can you get to that feature and see what it finds? It might be that the PC is resetting the wrong internet adapter.

Hey,
Just thought I'd let you know.. my computer is all hooked up now. It's working a charm, downloading videos at over 500kb/s.
I have no idea what I did. All of a sudden it just started.. working I guess.
I'm really grateful for all the help, seriously.
You guys really are a testament to the good will of human beings.
