    gone from bad to worse

    Hello

I just made a bad problem worse.

For some reason, yesterday when I went to turn on my computer, the internet just was not working. It worked fine the day b4. My computer is connected to a router with 2 other computers connected as well, both getting internet. As it turns out, the problem lies with my computer, I guess the internet adapter just mysteriously crashed. When, at the command line I typed ipconfig, I got an invalid ip address and it would not let me renew it.

So I did some research and I found something that said I should uninstall my network adapter and restart my computer. So when I typed ipconfig/all at the command line, it mentioned the mac bridge port. So I uninstalled that. As soon as I did that, I got a bad feeling, and thought to myself I really should've made sure with someone who knows b4 uninstalling it. Sure enough, when I restarted it, the mac bridgeport did not show up in the device manager.

So now I have 2 problems. Can anyone please help??

    Thanks

I've never heard of a "mac bridgeport" - doesn't sound like a reference to a type of network card that I recognise. Is this an Apple Mac or a Windows PC?

Are you connecting to the router through a network cable or wirelessly?

Assuming that it's a Windows PC, go into Control Panel, then Network And Internet Connections and then right-click the network connection that you are using and select Properties. A screen will open showing a number of check-boxes. One of those will say "Internet protocol (TCP/IP). Double-click it.

This will show if an IP address has been manually entered for the PC and a DNS server. If they have, check the settings against those that work on another PC to ensure that they are valid. Alternatively, set the options to automatically detect settings for all values.

Let us know how you get on

I got it. I just had to uninstall and reinstall my actual network adapter. Apparently I do not need my MAC bridge port, which will remain uninstalled. But here's some info on what that is: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa917474.aspx

    thanx
