To access the control panel ( I want to unistall some programs in the add/remove section) I usually hit "start", "settings" then "control panel". Both settings and control panel have disappeared from the start meun. How do I get "settings, etc., back??

    Is this a new problem?

    Can you run regedit?

Can you open the Task Manager?

If you cannot then you might have a Trojan that restricted these functions.

If it is only System Restore and has always failed then you might just need a simple registry fix.

Let us know about the above.

I have merged your threads as I believe they are a similar problem.

I did not see the earlier one at my last post.

Please follow the instructions in my next post.

Please read THIS and after completing the steps outlined post a HijackThis log over in that section along with a brief description of your problem.

Do not post HijackThis logs in this section please.

No problem in running either the task manager or regedit. Do you still want me to run "HiJack This" and send it to you?

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
As a first step I would suggest that.

Do not post it here but in the section I linked to.

If they give you an all clear I can look up a registry fix for these functions.
