Limited connectivity
I am having problem connecting of my computers to the domain. the computer shows a message in the network saying it has limited connectivity. But before there used to be another computer in the same place and it worked properly. can any one tell how I can remove this limited connectivity message and join it to the domain

Is it really a domain network and not a workgroup network? If so, are you running a Windows server? What version of Windows is the server running?
-
It a domain network. I am running windows server 2000.

Could you please confirm that it is this standard procedure that you are using to try to join the PC to the domain? http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../w2kadm31.mspx
-
yes i am following that procedure. However after I enter the username and password it gives an error message. But my password and user name is correct. I have an exclamation mark like thing on the network connection saying limited or no connectivity.

What's the error message that you get after you try entering the username and password? You should be entering the name in the format DOMAIN/DomainAdminUserName.

sorry about the late reply. The last reply was wrong. the comes before. the message says that "a domain controller for the domain edc.lan could not be contacted. Ensure the domain name is typed correctly."
but the name is correct. I can't understand why it doesn't detected. The only reason i could think was because of the limited connectivity mark. but i don't how to solve the problem

It might be a problem with the IP address on the PC. If the TCP/IP settings are set to "automatically detect", then the PC should look for a server to give it an IP address before you log in. However, if this isn't working properly (or if an incorrect IP address has been set manually), then the PC may be physically wired into the network but not be able to see the server. Try setting "automatically detect" in the TCP/IP settings or enter a static IP address that is in an appropriate range (e.g. 192.168.0.134) with the correct subnet mask for your network (e.g. 255.255.255.0) and the correct Default Gateway (e.g. 192.168.0.1). You can check another PC to find appropriate settings if you are not sure.

I used ip config on the dos of another computer. and noted the ip address and the subnet mask. Lets say if the ip is 192.168.0.134. I have changed the 134 to different number and used the same subnet mask and the default gateway. Now the limited connectivity from the task bar is gone but still the message comes.

That's good - we're getting there
Now, I have just read back through the previous posts and noticed something unusual. You said that the message you are getting is ".....edc.lan could not be contacted .....". Is your domain not called edc.local or edc.com ? You can check this on one of the other PCs that works correctly.
Let us know if that was the cause of the problem
