    Comodo Firewall

I've just discovered that IBM have terminated BlackICE PC Protection:
    http://blogs.ittoolbox.com/security/...blackice-18179
The product is no longer sold and support will end in one year's time.

This makes me sad. BlackICE in my opinion was a top product, and Michele at Consumer Support was unfailingly helpful. My problems with BlackICE were all pretty much the result of my own ignorance, but Michele could always get me untangled.

So, as of December I'm in need of a new firewall. I noticed that Comodo Firewall got a thumbs up in this thread:

Has anyone else got a comment to offer? I have to say this, I am curious to know how Comodo makes a buck if they give their programs away for free.

As with much software a Free Home version is offered. They make money off business and Professional editions which also have many additional features.

Plus the company has many other programs for sale.

I have used it with no problem. It is simple and straight forward.

Aha, well, that's another vote in its favour. With Dan Penny and Digerati and jephree giving the nod, it sounds like it must be pretty good.

Comodo has been the subject of mostly favorable ongoing commentary (and with user subscriber input) in the following newsletter:

Thanks for your comments. Vop, I notice from that link that Comodo's new version is due in October. Good timing for me!

A little good-news story I thought I'd share - I emailed my contact at BlackICE to express my regrets and my gratitude, and she has offered me a complimentary licence to see me through until the finish next year.
    Now that's service!
