a quick question about ip address'
i recently got kicked from another forum (a football one) because i had 2 accounts. which is untrue, i had one and so did my father. i set up mine using my computer, he set up his using the spare computer.
both are connected to the same router. i thought that because i set up his ip to be 192.168.x.xx2 and mine to be 192.168.x.xx1 it would be fine.
the accounts have never been opened on the other computer, both have only been logged into the computer they were created on.
how come we got kicked for having 2 accounts on the same ip?
-
a router ip and your ISP provided IP is totally different. so while yours might've been 192.168.x.xx2 and his x.xx1, were you to create another account on the soccer site with your other computer, the IP would still be the same.
it will read the ISP's IP.

oh i see.
thank you for the information.
is there any way to get around it?
-
You could try using a proxy.

I think it's a bit harsh to get kicked off completely if it was purely for having two accounts. Many forums track duplicate accounts to stop people pretending to be more than one person on the forum. In most cases I have seen though you would get a warning and the two accounts would be merged.
I would contact the forum administrator directly and explain the situation you have.

i thought it was a bit harsh also. i have contacted the admin from the site and i am awaiting a response.

you can use a free proxy address from www.proxy4free.com but then again, certain sites might have banned those free proxy.
and of course, paid proxy. lol. hopefully the site admin will unbann you. really seems too harsh in my opinion.

thank you all for the info/help.
i have been allowed back on the website.
i managed to convince him to allow both accounts to be on after a friend of a friend told him that they were 2 different accounts. which i now owe a few pints to some people now.
