    Vista/XP Home Network Problem

Hi all. I am having some issues with setting up my 1st home network.

I have an XP (SP2) Desktop and a laptop running Vista. I am using a Netgear Router with built-in ADSL router.

After much fiddling I have now got to the point where I can see both computers on eachother and can access the Laptop public folder from the desktop.

The problem I have is accessing the desktop public folder and printer from my (Vista) laptop. File and printer sharing is active on both computers. When I click on the desktop icon from the laptop i get this message:

'//DESKTOP Access denied. You may not have permission to access this computer. Contact the administrator of this server'

    There are no error codes.

Can anybody help me as I am sure that it is something simple that I am missing but I am not an IT professsional so need assistance!!

    Many Thanks.

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
To add, I have set up and tried to resolve the fault with all firewalls/anti-virus/spyware software disabled. Obviously whilst being disconnected from the Web!!
