what card
hi i am trying to set up a home network. this is probably a really dumb question but what card do i have to get. I have a pcmcia card that says 10 mbps LAN and another that says modem. Will one of these work on my laptop or do i have to buy one that says networking on it. Sorry for being a thicky and thanks for any help
-
the 10 mbps LAN card is a network card it should have a RJ45 socket to connect a network cable
-
thanks, so all i need to do is buy a cable with a phone connector at one end and this rj45 connector at the other. Is it really that easy. I already have a router and existing internet connection
-
what router have you got?
has it got Ethernet connection, if so just a Ethernet cable between the laptop card and the router will connect you to it
-
i am connected through microwaves apparantly. similar to broadband but we donīt have a landline. not sure what ethernet is but the router has a small phone like socket in the back. The router is a Mediatrix 1102. I had been led to beleive that connecting 2 computers to share the internet was really difficult. I didnīt know it would be this easy. Thanks
-
sorry the router is Alvarion, the other box (Mediatrix) is to do with the phone i think but they are all connected together
-
how does your PC connect to the router, with an Ethernet cable?
has the router got space for another cable?
RJ45 Ethernet
