    LAN problem

We are sharing internet on a LAN connection, 3 systems are connected, the speed of downloading and surfing was good and there was no problem. But from a few days a problem is slowing down the speed of internet onmy PC.In the three Systems on LAN one system is creating problems whenever that system is started the speed of the internet slows down on my system, and from a download speed of 60kbps I get only 5 to 10kbps,the surfing speed also slow down.I have checked for a spyware with "adaware-se personal" but the system is not infected with any virus or spyware.

Also the speed fluctuates from 0 to 10 it goes to 0kbps and remain 0 for 5 to 6 seconds and again goes to 10kbps.The ping command shows reply for some seconds and then request timed out for few seconds.

This problem is not only on windows XP, it is also same on windows 2000pro.

Have you checked that all PCs are picking up different IP addresses? You can do this by going to a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) and then typing ipconfig /all. Also, check that the Default Gateway value is the same for all PCs.

What kind of network are you using, wired? wireless?. If wired, how is it setup? What happens when, the computer that is causing the problem is running all by itself on the network (i.e. the other 2 computers are truned off). Do you still have speed problem when that one "bad" computer is running alone?

there is no way that they should have different default gateways, either wise they couldn't ping. Unless....what networking devices are you using? a router and some switches or just a switch? Make sure your networking cables are connected fully. Sometimes, when a cable isn't connected fully, it will drop packets. If it is wireless, maybe your too far from the wireless router (if your using on,) then check to see if your cable is terminated correctly, to do this, make sure that you see no bare wires before the connector. All of the bare wire should be inside the connector like this it may be hard to see, but you see where the red plastic stops? Make sure thats about where your cable is at if your cable isn't past the indent, then your cable isn't terminates correctly. hope fully this will help if not....then ill cry (if your having trouble understanding me, there is an illustration that shows the places im talking about.)
