Strange problem with netgear DG834G. Please help!

Ok, when I first bought my router everything seemed fine. But now I have a few problems. For example when I use limewire it might work for 30 minutes and then it will disconnect telling me that I am behind a firewall. When this happens it will not work again, maybe for a few weeks. Same goes for Ares and on Counter Strike Source I get crazy lag. And my Xbox 360 lags a lot. I have a 2Mb connection so I wouldn't expect this to be the case.

Does the router have some sort of built in security because it seems to disrupt everything I use. It isn't my norton firewall because I have configured it to allow all of these things. I don't think its a problem with my laptop because my desktop behaves exactly the same way when connected to the router. I have tried port forwarding in the past but don't really know if I did it right. Should I try again or is there a more simple solution?

    Thanks

The DG834 routers will have a firewall built in. P2P applications such as Limewire (which we don't provide help for, incidentally) and games typically use different ports than the standard HTTP port 80, which is used for standard web browsing. If your web browser works OK but games do not, check your router configuration screens and see if you have an option to allow "special applications" (or a similar name) to open certain ports. In fact, this might be "port forwarding" - I'm not too sure without looking at it. If you've already opened the ports, then you probably want to have another look at what you've done.
